AS MEDIA Coursework Assessment Details
In the Main task there are THREE areas you will be assessed on and the TOTAL mark is out of 100:
- Research & Planning worth up to 20marks
- Construction worth up to 60 marks
- Evaluation worth up to 20 marks
Although you will be working in groups, you will be assessed individually for your contribution to each area.
Reasearch & Planning
You will show evidence of your research and planning by using a blog. Research and planning includes:
• research into similar products and a potential target audience
• organisation of actors, locations, costumes or props.
• shotlists, drafting, scripting or storyboarding

Construction
These are the elements you will be assessed on for the construction of the product (the finished film):
- holding a shot steady, where appropriate;

- using varied shot transitions and other effects selectively and appropriately for the task set;
- using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;

Evaluation
These are the questions you must address in your evaluation:
- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
- How does your media product represent particular social groups?
- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
- Who would be the audience for your media product?
- How did you attract/address your audience?
- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

You will work in groups of 3 or 4 and together you must research, plan, film and edit the titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes. (All video and audio material must be original, produced by YOU, with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source).
When you have completed the film, you must then produce an evaluation of the whole process. The presentation of the research, planning and evaluation may take the form of any combination of two or more of the following:
- a presentation using slideshow software such as Powerpoint;
- a blog or website;
- a podcast;
- a DVD with ‘extras’.
